Bike Shop Hub Center:

This section of our blog focuses on what we are up to here at the shop. Along with announcements of new products and sales, we talk about the daily grind... errr I mean the 24 hour party here at Bike Shop Hub. We discuss various aspects of being involved in the bicycle industry and talk about the cycling community here in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Submit Your Cycling Photos

Here at the Bike Shop Hub we are big fans of collecting photos of the cycling products that we love in use. Our Wandertec BONGO Trailer Fleet

wandertec-bongo-bike-cargo-trailer-small-and-large-crop

We set up these 3 Wandertec BONGO Bike Cargo Trailers to be used by a local crew to pick up garbage on an earth day event. We have joined in for the Earth Day trash pick-up with bike trailer fun the past 2 years but had a bit too much to deal with over the weekend working on our new website update.

The 3 trailers here are 2 large Wandertec BONGO Trailers on the sides and a small trailer in the middle. The one on the right has a loadbed with box strapped on. The center BONGO has a 24 gallon Rubbermaid ActionPacker bolted on while the left Large BONGO has the ActionPacker attached with a sneak peak of our prototype quick attach system.

Will’s BOB Trailer Rolling by Yockanookany

Will, our customer at BikeTrailerShop.com, sent in this picture of his BOB Yak Trailer on a tour through the Natchez Trace in Central Mississippi. Will picked up the Greenfield Kickstand, Wandertec Cargo Net and upgraded his tire to the Schwalbe Big Apple.

Bob’s DIY Bike Trailer Solutions

Bob had been setting up bike cargo trailers for himself and using them for many years.

In Bob’s words: “The canvas trailer was my first build. In its 16 years it has countless miles on it. My German shepherd spent many a happy mile there. This trailer is now onto its 3rd owner. The blue trailer now has 10000 kms on. It is 6 years old the new bike dog hauler I am building is the same design. I prefer the high mounted as my wife just pushes the trailer into the grocery store and then back out to the bike.”

Varnishing The BONGO Bike Trailer LoadBeds

wandertec-bongo-flatbeds-spar-varnish-drying-cropHere is a batch of load beds that Casey is varnishing for the Wandertec BONGO Bike Cargo Trailer. We are using the office at our new location while it is being built out as a warm, dust-free environment. As we are not too well setup for this part of the process, we are talking to local cabinet makers about doing the load bed finishing.

DIY Bike Trailer In NYC

diy-bike-cargo-trailer-new-york-city-cropI snapped this photo of this dude floating along through NYC with his home-made bike cargo trailer. I think he’s got his painting tools in there. Check out our guide to DIY bike trailers at BikeTrailerBlog.com.

Old Time Tandem/New Time Tandem

I thought I’d do a Virginia Slims style comparison of the old tandem on display at the Tombstone Courthouse museum and our shiny new Thorn Tandem with S&S Couplers and Rohloff hub. You’ve come a long way baby!

New Webstore Platformed Launched!

I’m not quite sure why, but somehow this image represents the 2 year struggle of getting our multi-site webstore off the ground. Today was finally the big day of launching the re visioned BikeTrailerShop.com and our brand new site BikeKidShop.com. We’d love to hear if you have any thoughts or suggestions. We’re not quite partying about the launch yet, but if things stay as smooth sailing with the launch as they have been, we’ll be partying by the end of the week.

Bike Messenger Bag Merry-Go-Round

timbuk2-rotating-bike-bag-display-interbike09-cropDigging through my 2009 Interbike photos, I uncovered this pic from the Timbuk2 booth. They set up a really cool contraption for displaying their messenger bags. The guy in the back of the photo is turning the cranks on the machine to make all of the bike bags slowly rotate.

We don’t currently offer Timbuk2, but are definitely considering adding them to our lineup at Bike Bag Shop. In growing our product line at Bike Bag Shop, our initial goal was to put together a great selection of bike touring panniers and bike commuting panniers. We’ve gotten quite a bit of this accomplished as we are now offering nearly the full line of bicycling products for both Ortlieb and Vaude. We still have more bike touring and commuting bags that we are interested, but we do now have a solid and thorough selection.

With bike panniers well represented, we are beginning to look into expanding into bike messenger bags. Currently we have the full lineup of Ortlieb’s Messenger Bags and related accessories. These messenger bags are designed with the pro messenger in mind with a wide range of holsters and organizers to get them setup for full-time use.

Please let us know if you have any thoughts, suggestions or experiences with different styles and brands of bike messenger bags.
