Family Cycling Blog:

More and more parents and kids are discovering the recreational, transportation and health benefits of cycling together.

Family Cycling is fun.

And the fun can start young. We discuss the family adventures, the gear that families use, and how to use it safely.

Turn kids from passive, parent-powered passengers into active cyclists themselves as they grow.

Submit Your Family Cycling Photos

Cycling together as a family can be more fun and meaningful than the most epic tour. And the photos you take make irresistible blog fodder -- and we mean that in a really good way.

We love to collect photos of the products that make bikes part of the family. Send us anything from that photo of your child first learning to ride, to that photo of the whole family out on a cycling. Submit your family cycling photos here and we'll let you know when we publish them.

Adams Trail-A-Bike and a Bike Commuting Family

In the midst of our Black Friday thru Cyber Monday sales, we’ve also launched some sales on our trailer-cycles. We have both Adams and Weehoo Trailer Cycles on sale for 10% off through Dec. 13th.

This photo was snapped riding along side a bike commuting family that I kept seeing towards the end of the summer. Daughter is on board an Adams Folder 24 Trail-A-Bike. Whoops, keep that foot on the pedal there…

20% off Chrome on a Small Business Saturday

You may or may not have heard of Small Business Saturday.  Today is a great day to support small, local businesses.

While we are not local to most of our customers, we can certainly qualify for your patronage today as a small business with a focus on community.  And as of this May, we also do have a showroom and have been excited to welcome plenty more local customers into our Downtown Flagstaff location.  Our community of bike touring and commuting enthusiasts is linked together by online tools through our blogs, here and over at CommuteByBike.com and UtilityCycling.org, our Facebook page and our forums.

Xuzhou’s Bike Touring Smorgasbord for Black Friday Sales

I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving celebrations. Now that you’ve fueled up on some good home cooking, like the rest of retail America, we are encouraging you to burn up all those extra calories in a buying frenzy. We’ve got a whole bunch of Black Friday thru Cyber Monday Specials underway. Here is a quick run through:

This photo, sent in from a customer in China has a whole smorgasbord of bike touring products including an Ortlieb RackPack XL which is one of our current holiday weekend shopping specials.

Thanksgiving Turkey and the Many Hats of Robin Carlson

I thought today would be a good day to post some silly photos of Robin wearing some of his packing material based hats for two reasons. #1 Robin is our own in-house turkey keeping us all entertained with his antics and this is the day of Turkeys. #2 it just so happens today is Robin’s birthday, so Happy Turkey Birthday Robin!

Alpine Pedaler Spotting

I was downtown this weekend and spotted this pedaling party on wheels rolling down the street. I fumbled for my camera and got this somewhat blurry shot. This is a new business here in Flagstaff for pedaling parties through the downtown area. Looks like a blast and I think I’m going to have to get the Bike Shop Hub crew a ride one of these nights. Check out the website of this 15-person bike over at AlpinePedaler.com.

Herb’s Vaude Silk Road Plus on Tour

Our Vaude Sale continues on through next Tuesday, so I thought I’d post another contributed photo of Vaude bags on adventures.  This Vaude Silk Road Plus Racktop Bag looks well purposed on a folding bike credit card tour.
In Herb’s words:

I just took a 3 day credit card tour of the Allegheney Gap Bike Trail from Cumberland Md. To Pittsburgh, Pa. I was able to carry everything that I needed on my folding bike. The rain cover came in handy.
Thanks for your recommendation.

A2B Metro E-Basket

I wasn’t really using this basket to carry laundry. But zip tying on the back of the A2B Metro’s bike rack was a convenient place to get it home to where it was needed. I think there is an interesting collision of junk, tetchiness and consumer products in this photo bending in tones of grey.

RideKick Trailers and BikeTechShop.com

With the launch of BikeTechShop.com, we are becoming quite familiar with electric bike and electric assist kits. Another direction in electric that we’ve always been interested especially given our roots with BikeTrailerShop.comhas been electric powered bike trailers. The idea of having an electric push from a bike trailer has intrigued us from multiple perspectives.

  1. It allows for the a non-electric assist bike to be quickly converted into an electric bike.
  2. For someone or a family with multiple bikes, one investment in an electric assist unit can be shuffled between multiple bikes.
  3. The electric assist is there when you need it the most, basically when you are carrying cargo in the bike trailer.

Prototyping the Really Big Wandertec BONGO

I thought I’d post up these preview shots of some early prototyping of the new larger versions of the Wandertec BONGO bike trailer that we’ve been working on. While we are keeping the original design in the small version around, we’re replacing the large with a similar sized but newly designed version and an XL version. This is the initial design that we had out for testing. We’ve already evolved several iterations beyond this and are now working on a fabric liner and waterproof cover to fit in the new side rails. We’re targeting to have this available in the coming months and there should be preview photos as we continue on with development.

Acep’s Vaude Off Road Trunk Bag in the Indonesian Rain Forest

Acep sent in some great shots of what looks like it could be a rain forest bike commute, but is more likely some day tripping with a Vaude Seatpost Mounted Bag transporting his gear.
