Authorities said the victim was waiting for a northbound train to pass at the Eighth Street crossing at Laurel Street. The rider crossed behind the northbound train when he was struck by a southbound train, police said.

The crossing has six sets of railroad tracks.

Neighbors said they often see children near the tracks. They told NBC4 the children go around railroad crossing arms.

Police have not released the victim’s identity.

Authorities said the death marks the third time this year that someone was killed along the tracks.
