Cycling bags are a well appreciated gift by cyclists. As active cyclists ourselves, we’ve found that having a range of bike bags is useful for accomplishing a variety of tasks by bike, so it is hard to go wrong in gifting someone a bike bag. Racks can be a great gift too, but are a bit more specific to the bicycle, so you may want to do a little investigation before ordering.

The Ortlieb Ulimate 5 Compact Classic is on sale for $49 the next week thru Nov. 18th. I’ve recently mounted this great little bag onto my bike and have really been enjoying the convenience of it. I’d previously mounted larger handlebar bags to my bike, and while I found them very useful for bike touring and occasional use, I found them to be a little bit to large for everyday use around town. Around town, I’ve found that I prefer having a smaller more compact bag up front. I still use my saddlebag for tools and a pannier for when I have more stuff. But when I just have something extra that I want to have handy, this is my pocket for it. A cable lock for the ride down the street, a place to stow my camera, a pouch for the burrito I just picked up, this convenient bag does the trick. It looks good on my handlebars as well, unobtrusive with a splash of style in 4 colors in the Classic material or grey in the Plus version.
For the next week (thru Nov. 15th), we’ve marked the Racktime Barit down from $65 down to $55.
I’ve been testing out one of these handlebar bags on my tandem for the past 6 months. Overall, it’s been a very nice handlebar bag with high end features at a reasonable price. For connecting to the bike, it utilizes the Ortlieb handlebar mounting system. This excellent mounting system allows for the bag to be locked to the bike though it doesn’t lock shut. The bag has an excellent feel and look to it with a front, 2 side and a top pocket along with its main compartment. It included a rain cover for when the skies open up, but is sufficient as is for light rains. The Barit works with the Racktime Map Case and also can be used with the Ortlieb accessories listed below it on the Racktime Handlebar category page.
The Barit is available in Asphalt/Chili or Asphalt/Black. We have about 10 of the Asphalt/Chili is stock at the moment (which inspired this Zinger) but if you order the Asphalt/Black, while you can get it this price, it will be back ordered.

My wife just wrapped up testing the Ortlieb Downtown and had a hard time giving it back when the we sold her demo model. This bag is just a great mix of looks and usable features making it an ideal bike commuting pannier for may situations.
We currently have a Zinger sale running on it, with it marked down to $119 for the next week (thru Wed. Novemeber 10th). We’ve got plenty of them available in Aubergine, Green and White, however Black is on backordered, but can be purchased at the sale price and shipped when they come in.

I just sold the Vaude Wright Tarp Commuter Pannier that I was testing through our Demo Page and decided to pull this interesting pannier off of the shelf. Two things struck me right away, 1. this is a big pannier and 2. where do I put my laptop? It didn’t take me long to figure out that I could adjust the one of the two inner dividers so that I could fit my MacBook Pro in my Chrome Laptop Sleeve behind it. It took me a few minutes to get the foam bottom and side piece into place and snapped in. This continuous foam piece does a great job of giving the bag it’s defined shape, but can be easily removed if the bag needs to be folded flat.
One of the dividers seemed like a little bit much with more organization for pens and small papers than I would really use. The other set of dividers were more my speed with two main pockets. I used the other divider for sliding my 2 locks behind. I carry two locks as I use one for locking up our Extrawheel Advert Trailer down the street from our business.
The slight angled back mounting of the Ortlieb Office seemed quite good, allowing for such a large bag to be well seated on almost any bike rack. The handles were nice though, with the top handle, I doubt I’ll even bother with the shoulder strap. I am sure I will appreciate having a waterproof bag with the winter months ahead. I also liked the bold look of the classic white. The classic large version of the Ortlieb Office Bag is is also available in silver and black.
All in all, this is a great bag and I look forward to its convenience, reliability and water protection for my office stuff in the months ahead.
