Family Cycling Blog:

More and more parents and kids are discovering the recreational, transportation and health benefits of cycling together.

Family Cycling is fun.

And the fun can start young. We discuss the family adventures, the gear that families use, and how to use it safely.

Turn kids from passive, parent-powered passengers into active cyclists themselves as they grow.

Submit Your Family Cycling Photos

Cycling together as a family can be more fun and meaningful than the most epic tour. And the photos you take make irresistible blog fodder -- and we mean that in a really good way.

We love to collect photos of the products that make bikes part of the family. Send us anything from that photo of your child first learning to ride, to that photo of the whole family out on a cycling. Submit your family cycling photos here and we'll let you know when we publish them.

The Latest From Bike Child Trailers

David’s Rolling Chariot

With our amazing deals on 2011 and 2012 Chariots going on through May 28th, I thought I would highlight this customer photo of David out enjoying his Chariot CX2. Not only our the Chariots great for cycling with your kids, they are great multi-use carriers for strolling, jogging, hiking, cross-country skiing and in this case roller blading.

Lisa’s Bike Trailer Train

The trailer-cycle/bike-child-trailer train, is a rare creature that reveals itself in parks with bike paths and suburbs with low traffic. This fun but awkward setup is scared of traffic, steep turns and rough roads. Though always lingering on the endangered species list, they tend to crop up when the kids are just the right age and mom wants to go cycling.

Amy’s Trailer-Cycle and Her Son’s Big Smiles

With our Adam’s Trailer-Cycle Sale running through next Tuesday, I wanted to post this submission from a family who has been able to share the joys of cycling with their son who has Down syndrome

We were so grateful to find your “trail-a-bike!” Our little boy has Down syndrome and at age 9 still does not have the coordination to ride a bike by himself, but the trail-a-bike allows him to have the same experience as riding a typical bike. It’s so great to see him riding down the road with the wind blowing in his face, his feet pedaling and a smile that shines like the sun! Plus, we were so impressed by what a beautiful bike it is. (We got the red one.) Happy trails!

Adams Trail-A-Bike and a Bike Commuting Family

In the midst of our Black Friday thru Cyber Monday sales, we’ve also launched some sales on our trailer-cycles. We have both Adams and Weehoo Trailer Cycles on sale for 10% off through Dec. 13th.

This photo was snapped riding along side a bike commuting family that I kept seeing towards the end of the summer. Daughter is on board an Adams Folder 24 Trail-A-Bike. Whoops, keep that foot on the pedal there…

Bike Trailer Rally

While September and October are the end of the prime cycling season here in Flagstaff, it is the start of the cycling season in the deserts of our southern Arizona neighbors. Some Bike Shop Hub blog readers sent in these great photos of their bike trailer rally. It looks like they were having a great time on their family bicycle camping trip. And were always excited to see families having fun with gear that is available from all 3 of our shops: BikeTrailerShop.com, BikeBagShop.com and BikeKidShop.com.

Croozer Kid for 2 – Kent & Daughter

Some great photos of Kent and his daughter enjoying their Croozer Kid for 2.

Ordered this Croozer Kid for 2 from bikekidshop.com together with the baby sling. A reasonably good product quality indeed and I like about it’s push-release wheels that fix and dismantles quickly. It’s also so easy to convert between a trailer, a jogger and a stroller. It is spacious enough to accommodate my 5-year old son (Max height limit is 117cm)and he was comfortable enough to enjoy his drinks and chips while taking pictures along the way, finishing the trip dozing away. The little girl only gets to move around in it on stroller-mode, at least for now, till she’s older to join her brother.

Cavery Cab – Another Entrant in Single Wheel Child Trailers

We were recently contacted by an entrepreneur who has been working hard to bring a new product to market, the Cavery Cab, a single wheeled bike child trailer designed for off-road use. It looks to be a well thought out and solidly built design. In communicating with Cavery Cab, I also got the sense that this would be priced much more competitively than the very pricey Tout Terrain Single Trailer. Check out the Cavery Cab website for a bunch of great photos and info on the product.

From the designer/entrepreneur:

“I wanted to bring to your attention that a new bike trailer is coming to market. I have spent the last several years perfecting a single wheel bike trailer for children and gear. We call the trailer the “Cavery Cab” inspired by our son and you can find us on facebook by searching for “Cavery Cab”. If you would be interested in learning more about this trailer or perhaps offering it to customers, please feel free to contact me through this email or our facebook page. We are looking to fill orders.”

Find Family Bike Fun at the BikeKidShop.com

EDITORS Note: Megan wrote this post about a year and a half ago when we were launching BikeKidShop.com. It got missed and buried in our drafts, so I figured why not resurrect it. Enjoy…

The bike community has expanded greatly in the states over the last 20 years with heightened awareness of environmental issues. Wandertec was inspired with this utilitarian idea in mind, and has been geared to make integrating biking into your lifestyle easy and affordable since 2006. Starting out with the Bike Trailer Shop, we were able to bring a new element to bike touring and bike commuting. We included bike panniers and bike racks as well, but decided that they needed their own spotlight, and launched the Bike Bag Shop in 2008. The popularity of the bike child trailers grew with the multi-use features and increased comfort options available from the high end brands we carry. Thus, the Bike Kid Shop was born.

Being a biking mom myself, I was very excited to be a part of making the Bike Kid Shop happen. It was really liberating to be able to turn to my trailer for exercise once I had my little girl. She’s not old enough to bike with yet, but I am able to jog, stroll and ski with her thanks to the variety of conversion kits we carry. Products like the Baby Supporter and Infant Sling in conjunction with the 5 point harnesses included in all our trailers, really help to make me feel comfortable that my baby is safe and secured. She also seems pretty comfortable considering she falls asleep every time we jog the trails or go down town.

The Kid Shop offers high quality brands like Chariot Carriers, Burley Trailers, and Croozer Trailers which all have multiple conversion options. Burley offers the classic line up of trailers which have been updated and the features fine tuned for a quality child transport machine. It is always the old, reliable Burley trailers you see cruising on the bike path which were hand-me-downs many times over. Burley has made long-lasting trailers for many years, and really lives up to the burliness of the name.

Twin Bees Buzzing Around

A customer from Japan sent in this great photo of his twins in their new Burley Bee. The Yellow Gary Fisher with yellow parts looks great with the Bee. The Burley Bee is a great value at only $249.
