Questions about Mission Workshop Rambler Backpack

I am considering the purchase of the MW Rambler Backpack. Any help with these questions would be appreciated.

1. I assume the Rambler is 19" tall X 13" wide. The numbers are there, but I want to make sure I have the dimensions correct.

2. I know the waist strap is extra, but I need one. The picture indicates the waist strap passes through its own loop on the inside/bottom of the pack, and the literature says it is secured with Velcro. It would seem this arrangement would be quite sufficient for a good load to rest on the hips for a protracted time (as in bikepacking). Has anyone had experience with loads and the performance of the waist strap over time?

3. I am unfamiliar with the "air flow" design of these packs. Is the carbon-fiber frame arched so air can pass between the pack and one's back when riding? If not, does this pack even allow for air flow between the pack and back. This is an important consideration on long trips during the summer.

4. And, lastly, given this is a bicycling backpack, is there accommodation for a hydration bag and a port for the hose to pass through?

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated

Hi George,

The measurements on the site for the Mission Workshop Rambler are correct. One thing that I would point out is that when you expand the secondary compartment to the 10", the bottom of the bag stays at about 5". I just wanted to pint this out in case the expectation was that the whole bag would pop out to the 10" mark.

The belt attachment is really strong. The waistbelt actually goes through a sleeve and not just a "belt loop" type of loop. Inside the sleeve there is a velcro patch that keeps the bag from sliding from side to side. I had to give the belt a really strong pull to get it out. I don't know how the pack would perform on a long distance trip where you would have the pack sitting on your hips for an extended amount time.

There really isn't any "air flow" between the pack and your back. The padding is perforated to there will be some breathing, but you will sweat. We do have some packs in the shop that arch the back of the bag to create an open space for air flow.

It would be possible to make a hydration pack "work" with this bag. Mission Workshop does not design this bag with hydration packs in mind so you would have to do a bit of creative thinking. It's not an ideal setup but you could drop the bladder into one of the pockets and run the line out through one of the corners.

OK, and thank you for the answers. I still haven't heard from MW, the person I talked with in Richmond, VA didn't have a clue said they had sold some, no complaints, seemed like a good bag. Your comments are the most insightful and professional yet. Thank you.
What bags do you have in the shop that have an arch in the frame that provides airflow?

BikeShopHub.com Answer:
The Ortleib Flight BackPacks offer great airflow with a framed in mesh piece offset from your back. http://www.bikebagshop.com/ort…..-1897.html http://www.bikebagshop.com/ort…..-1899.html Similarly, all of the Vaude Bike Backpacks offer great airflow either with a mesh offset or thick rubber bumbers with air channels: http://www.bikebagshop.com/vau…..c-102.htmlOrtlieb Flight 27 Backpack
