With the wide array of cycling backpacks and messenger bags available today, choosing a comfortable bag for cycling can be a bit bewildering. And with the popularity of shoulder slung bags, it would seem that the lowly, or should I say low slung hip pack is now overlooked. For many cycling adventures we’ve found that a backpack is a little bit more than is needed. With this in mind, we joined forces with seamster Barry Ward to bring back the fanny pack.
The Wandertec Asymptote is the best of what came out of this often ridiculed fashion statement. Big enough for a water bottle, lunch, guidebooks, keys and some electronic communicators, this bag is right sized for a bunch of cycling adventures. And keeping the weight of your shoulders and on your hips, depending on the task at hand, is often just what the doctor ordered.
As with Wandertec Messenger Bags and the Wandertec SAX, we’ve turned to our favorite outdoors fabric, ballistic nylon, once again making for a long lasting bag with the right balance of contour and touch.
This bag features a well thought out strap system for cinching the bag up tightly around the contents and close to your body. The main buckles on the bag serve three purposes. They keep the bag shut, they compress the load of the bag and they can be used for stowing items like rolled up jackets outside of the bag. The two belt compression straps help to further tighten up the bag and help for adjusting how the load sits on the belt. While this is a hip pack, we’ve added in a shoulder sling for further spreading out the load if when extra support.
With enough room and organization for the essentials and a little more. The Wandertec Asymptote is the perfect bag for zippy bike commutes and all day mountain bike jaunts.
