Bike to Work Day-John LaPierre

The following is a JJ exclusive Bike to Work Day statement…

There was no flashy campaign, very few public service announcements, and almost no one knew it, but…May is National Bike Month

Almost every week and every day is bike to work week for me and a few others, but I did see two new people apparently pedaling their way to work this week. That’s a good thing. As Moe the Bike Geek says, “It’s not as hard as you think.” And, it’s just fun. It almost feels like your having too much fun sometimes, like being happy on the way to work is un-natural. But that’s just the influence of the faces behind all those windshields we pass on the way to work. Believe me, you get used to it.

My day today was very typical. I packed some baby wipes, under clothes, clean shirt, and my laptop into my pack. I also carried a couple slim-fasts and some water. Don’t forget a good lock, helmet and gloves. That’s about it. For my commute I prefer platform pedals so I take only the shoes I wear. When I get to work, I just go to a stall in the men’s room, strip off the bike shorts I wear under my pants, do the baby wipe bath, and put on fresh undies and a shirt. For lunch, I have 3 restaurants within 5 minutes by bike, so I don’t have to change again. Before I leave for home, I simply go back to the men’s room and slip on my bike shorts under my pants again. My shorts have been discreetly airing under my desk. Since they were clean to start, and my ride is only 30 minutes, that’s no problem.

That’s about it. It’s so easy a caveman could do it.
