Heat Advisory for Susquehanna River Valley

My morning commute wasn’t too fun. It was already warm at 8:30 this morning and the humidity wasn’t helping at all. During my lunch break I decided to ride back home. It was unbearable! I had all intentions on riding back to work until I stepped out of my air-conditioned house. It felt like I was stepping into a sauna. So I ended up driving back to work. After checking some e-mail, I found out that our Safety and Occupational Health Specialist here at work put out a heat advisory stating:

“The excessive heat watch is now in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon. A heat advisory remains in effect from 1 pm this afternoon to 12 pm EDT Tuesday. A large area of high pressure over the central united states will spread east over the next 36 to 48 hours, bringing increasing heat and humidity to central Pennsylvania today through Thursday. Highs today will reach the lower to middle 90s across the lower Susquehanna River Valley, with heat indices between 100 and 104 degrees. At night, low temperatures will remain in the lower to middle 70s with high humidity, bringing little if any relief from the day time heat. The heat wave will peak Tuesday and Wednesday, but linger into Thursday, before a cold front arrives from the great lakes Thursday night and Friday. High temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday could reach 100 to 104 with heat indices topping 110 degrees. Highs on Thursday will reach the upper 90s, producing heat indices between 105 and 110 degrees. An excessive heat watch means that a prolonged period of hot weather is expected. The combination of high temperatures and humidity will create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. You can prepare now for the upcoming heat by stocking up on non alcoholic and decaffeinated beverages.”

If you work or live in this area, please take this heat advisory accordingly.

Same thing here in Cincinnati…..when I walked the dog this morning, I decided to drive to work. I was sweating within minutes, so I knew riding the bike home wouldn’t be a good idea.

So I’ll drive….not the end of the world, but it’s not nearly as fun. I’ll hit the pool at the Y this evening for some laps to get in my exercise.

Same thing here in Ottawa Ontario Canada. 93 degrees today without the humidity. With the humidity at 8am it was already 90 degrees. It should hit 105 – 110 degrees today with the humidity. My ride in this morning was sticky!

North of Albany, NY today, Tuesday, it’s supposed to be high 90s with heat indexes around 112. Crazy, I say. If I’m lucky I can go biking after 6pm tonight with it cools down to 80 something.

Southern California has finally cooled down. I guess the nasty heat wave moved east.
