Lessons from the Netherlands

Streetfilms recently went to the Netherlands to study bicycle transportation. They traveled around to a number of different Dutch cities to examine the ways in which bikeway designs encourage people to ride their bikes. Are the Dutch genetically predisposed to ride their bikes for transportation? This is rather unlikely, so the whole goal of the project detailed in the film below was to figure out what makes the Netherlands such a great place to ride and how to produce similar impacts in other places around the world. There were workshops with local experts, hands-on time on the bikeways, and lots of great time with locals who use the bicycle for transportation. The film is a bit long but quite worth the time to watch.

Wow, it never rains in the Netherlands. Who would have thought?
