Commuters and bike tourists for whom versatility, durability and repairability are more important than weight, this is your front rack.

The Surly Front Rack has two levels for hanging panniers. Most people will want to use the lower tubing, but you’ll appreciate the option to adapt to road and trail conditions. And don’t be shy about using the platform. This rack can carry up to 70 pounds.

Adjusts to fit from 26″ to 29″ wheel wheel with or without fenders, including all Surly forks except the Pugsley fork and Moonlander forks (due to the offset of the Pugsley fork driveside blade and the width of the Moonlander fork).

The main body of is made of tubular CroMoly steel. In the rare instance that this rack breaks, you should be able to find, even in the most remote regions of planet Earth, somebody to TIG, MIG, stickweld, braze or solder this rack back together. An aluminum rack won’t afford you the same luxury.

The stock rack and hardware is designed to fit front racks mount to forks with mid-blade eyelets – about 165mm from the dropout. Most quality touring forks have these. Additional hardware maybe needed to accommodate other forks, and can be found here Surly Nice Front Rack Hardware Set.

For more information, refer to the Surly Front Rack Installation Instructions.

Baby Got Rack

Seems pretty dumb to review a Surly rack. They're perfect. Why would anyone use other racks? I've used other racks and it's one of my biggest failures and I've failed a lot. If you're reading this review, it means you're thinking of buying a Surly rack. Don't think any longer, just do it.

Excellent front rack from an excellent retailer.

I needed this highly rated rack in a hurry and the folks from came through. I immediately installed the rack when it arrived and took off for 6 days of touring the next day. It is easy to install and worked wonderfully. Thank you very much.

Good Rack

I was in the need of a heavy duty steel rack for loaded touring. I was attracted to the Surly Front Rack as it was one of few with a platform on top. I purchased the Surly and just recently installed the rack. First impressions of the rack is that it is very strong and sturdy. I have no doubt that this rack will perform flawlessly in my touring escapades. My only complaint about the rack is the complexity of installation. It took quite a bit of trial and error to get the rack to fit the way it needed to. I have a Kona Sutra touring bike and was able to figure out the installation but this took a while. I would most definitely recommend this product to those who want a heavy duty front rack.
